Springville, Utah – A recent police report has shed light on a dramatic incident involving Ruby Franke, a Utah parenting blogger, and her husband, Kevin Franke, who allegedly wanted their oldest daughter, Shari Franke, charged with burglary. This revelation comes in the wake of child abuse charges filed against Ruby Franke and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, known for their parenting and lifestyle YouTube channel.
The incident, which occurred in early September, took place two days after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the Franke family home, rescuing two of their children from Hildebrandt’s residence, who were reported to be malnourished and neglected. In response to the child abuse allegations, the police served a search warrant at Ruby Franke’s residence in an effort to locate the other children.
According to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital, Kevin Franke, Ruby’s husband, reached out to the police, claiming that their home had been burglarized. He alleged that the front door had been forcibly opened, with some electronics missing, and he suspected his oldest daughter, Shari Franke, of the crime. Kevin asserted that Shari was not allowed in the house and believed she had entered unlawfully.
However, the responding officer clarified that the door had been broken during the execution of the search warrant by the Springville Police Department and that Shari was not responsible for the damage. Kevin Franke expressed his desire to have Shari charged with theft for taking hard drives from the house, but the officer explained that Shari was unaware of any restrictions and offered to return the items.
Subsequently, Shari Franke returned the electronics, including tablets, cellphones, cameras, written journals, and passports, to the Springville Police Department. The police decided not to press charges against Shari, stating that her intent was not to deprive her father of any items, she had previously been allowed in the home, and Kevin Franke himself had not been in the home for an extended period.
In response to the police’s decision, Kevin Franke allegedly threatened to sue the police department, as documented in the police report. The report does not mention whether any legal action was taken following this threat.
The Franke family, particularly Ruby Franke, had been known for their popular parenting video blog “8Passengers.” However, they faced criticism for various controversial videos, including instances where Ruby discussed withholding Christmas presents from their children as punishment and other forms of discipline.
Following the backlash, Ruby Franke discontinued the “8Passengers” channel and, along with Jodi Hildebrandt, began a new joint parenting YouTube channel called “ConneXions Classroom.”
Police reports also revealed that Shari Franke and neighbors informed the authorities that Ruby would leave her children unattended at their Springville home for extended periods while visiting Hildebrandt in St. George.
This recent incident further deepens the controversies surrounding the Franke family and their parenting methods.
