Chicago: Most recently on Tuesday, September 3, a Chicago man has been charged with the shooting death of 4 commuters.
A 30-year-old Chicago man shot four sleeping passengers on an L train in the suburb of Forest Park, Illinois, on Monday. Deputy Chief Christopher Chin of the Forest Park Police Department said the suspect has been identified as Rhanni S. Davis.
“This wasn’t a robbery. It didn’t appear that he was in a fight with anybody else,” Mr. Chin said in an interview on Tuesday. “This was a random act of violence. He shot and killed four victims when literally they were sleeping on the train.”
Kim Foxx, the top prosecutor in Cook County, described the shooting as “unexplained” when announcing charges in the case. Rhanni S. Davis is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. There is no information whether he has a lawyer or not.
The shooting occurred aboard a westbound Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train just before 5:30 a.m. Monday.
According to police, surveillance video shows the suspect walking by a train, shooting four sleeping passengers in two separate train cars.
Among the passengers who died, there were three men and one woman who were not sitting together. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. The person who saw the incident ran away from the train and is being searched by the police.
