Though it’s not public until it’s official, President Joe Biden may be taking calls to withdraw from the presidential election into consideration after over 3 weeks of intensifying appeals from members of his party.
According to a top Democratic adviser, Biden has been “greatly susceptible to these appeals of worries,” as CNN’s Jeff Zeleny stated on Wednesday. According to Zeleny, who cited a source, Biden is “acting receptive, but not as aggressive as he is publicly,” and there are still private talks regarding his candidacy taking place on Capitol Hill.
Though he hasn’t announced his intention to withdraw from the campaign, Biden is rumored to have started questioning Vice President Kamala Harris’ chances of winning the presidency in November.
A source closest to the president informed The New York Times on Wednesday that while Biden “is ready to listen,” it might be incorrect to think of him as more open to the idea of pulling out.
Biden’s shift in attitude follows an especially trying day for the distressed president. It was revealed on the previous Wednesday that Biden had received direct requests to withdraw from the race for the benefit of the party from the 2 most powerful Democrats in Congress: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
Politico was informed by an unnamed person familiar to both federal legislators that Schumer and Biden gathered on Saturday to discuss “current polling, the Democratic Party, as well as where it’s going.” The conversation was “based on the current issues facing the president.”
As per an additional official who also received anonymity, Jeffries was having a similar chat with President Biden just days ago, informing the president that the Democrats going down the ballot were in danger because of his position at the head of the ticket.
Additionally, both men were allegedly involved in a secret effort to stall the DNC’s efforts to advance Biden’s nomination by holding a virtual balloting at the start of the upcoming month.
