Exactly one day before she passed away, Shannen Doherty formally sought to dissolve her union with her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko.
Us Weekly has confirmed that documents stating Doherty and Iswarienko were moving forward with their divorce as peacefully as possible were filed on Friday, July 12. Together, the ex-couple submitted a declaration of default on their marital split.
The court filings said, “This matter will continue as an uncontested action.” Along with renouncing her claim to spousal support, Doherty said, “I voluntarily give up permanently any opportunity to get spousal or partner support.”
Both parties’ requests for the court to stop providing any help were verified by the documentation. Previously, the subject of spousal support was a major source of disagreement after Doherty and Iswarienko’s split.
After 11 years of marriage, Doherty petitioned for divorce from Iswarienko in April 2023. Leslie Sloane, her representative at the time, asserted that Iswarienko’s agent was “deeply involved” in the breakup.
“Shannen never wanted a divorce,” Sloane stated. Sadly, she believed there was nothing else she could do.
Documents that we were able to collect show that Doherty and Iswarienko split up in January 2023. The split occurred while Doherty was still receiving treatment for her battle with breast cancer. Following two years of chemotherapy, Doherty verified she was in remission in 2015, the year she made her illness public.
Doherty stated that she was given a stage IV breast cancer diagnosis in 2020 and that three years later, the disease had returned and had migrated to her bones.
On Sunday, July 14, the US verified Doherty’s 53-year-old passing. Iswarienko was accused by Doherty of “intentionally postponing settlement in hopes” that she might “not survive” the divorce process in court records filed before her death. The actress had asked for $15,343 per month in spousal support, beginning on June 1, 2024.
Iswarienko’s lawyer asserted that Doherty received a settlement offer but refuted any intention. Kurt is not “simply waiting for Shannen to die,” as reported by the U.S. Sun, based on his attorney Katherine Heersema’s legal response. “He wishes what’s best for Shannen and he wishes both of them to be prepared to put this case beyond them and move forward.”
