A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in tragedy in Lake County on Saturday, according to the published article of TMJ4. The incident began when Pleasant Prairie Police attempted to stop a 32-year-old man driving a stolen Lexus GS400. The driver fled leading officers on a pursuit. Despite police deploying a tire-deflating device near Russell, Illinois the driver continued to speed recklessly prompting Pleasant Prairie Police to discontinue the pursuit near unincorporated Zion. The driver’s reckless flight culminated in a devastating crash at the intersection of Kilbourne Road and Route 173 around 4:30 p.m. The stolen Lexus ran a red light and collided with a GMC Yukon resulting in the death of the 32-year-old driver.
Fatal High-Speed Chase: 32-Year-Old Driver Dead, 8 Injured in Lake County Collision
The crash left eight passengers in the GMC Yukon injured including a 51-year-old man from Waukegan who sustained critical injuries. Among the injured were a 30-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man and four minors aged 15, 15, 11 and 8 all of whom were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the driver of the stolen vehicle had a revoked driver’s license. The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision. The crash highlights the dangers of high-speed pursuits and the tragic consequences that can result from reckless driving.
