A convicted felon, Joseph Grier, faces over 30 charges for hijacking a bus killing a passenger and leading police on a multi-county chase. His charges include murder, assault, kidnapping, and hijacking.
On June 11 at 4:30 p.m., Atlanta Police responded to reports of gunfire and a hostage situation on a bus on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard Northeast. When officers arrived and the bus drove away with Grier allegedly holding the driver at gunpoint.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said a passenger’s 911 call was cut off, but another call from a family member confirmed the hijacking. A third passenger kept an open line with the police giving updates throughout the incident.
The chase ended in DeKalb County, where passengers were safely evacuated. Police found an adult male passenger with a gunshot wound, who later died in the hospital. Grier now faces multiple charges, including murder and firearms offenses.

Convicted Felon Joseph Grier Hijacks Bus, Kills Passenger, Leads Police on Multi-County Chase
Chief Schierbaum stated Grier has been arrested 19 times, mostly for handgun-related offenses. This incident adds to his long criminal record showing a pattern of violent behavior, according to the report of True Crime Daily.
Grier hijacked a Georgia bus, shot a passenger after an argument, and forced a police chase through two counties. Despite a flat tire, the bus kept going until police disabled it. Grier, previously interviewed, cited bipolar disorder and parole restrictions preventing gun ownership as contributing to his actions.
