Multiple products from the Charles Boggini Company have been recalled due to undeclared chemicals and preservatives, including a dye linked to cancer. This recall, announced by the FDA, affects four beverages widely sold in restaurants across the United States.
Recalled Products and Health Risks
The recall targets the company’s Pink Lemonade, Cola Flavoring Base, Yellow Lemonade, and Yellow Lemonade X drinks. These beverages, available in one and five-gallon quantities, are distributed to various food establishments nationwide.
The Pink Lemonade drink was found to contain FD&C Red No. 40, a dye linked to colorectal cancer. The Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X drinks contain FD&C Yellow No. 5, which can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Additionally, the Cola Flavoring Base contains sulfites, preservatives that, in large quantities, can lead to respiratory issues.
FDA Enforcement and Company Response
The FDA listed the recall as “voluntary,” meaning it was initiated by the company rather than mandated by the agency. However, Charles Boggini has not confirmed the recall and did not respond to requests for comment.
The FDA requires companies to disclose all dyes, preservatives, and other chemicals used in their products. Failure to do so can result in recalls or fines. This recall underscores the importance of transparency and consumer safety in the food and beverage industry.
