Chaotic Scene in Ocean City: Teen Stabbed During Boardwalk Fight

A 15-year-old boy was stabbed during a fight on the Ocean City, New Jersey boardwalk on Saturday night, according to the published article of CBS NEWS. The altercation occurred just before 9:15 p.m. on the 1000 block of the boardwalk where the teenager was attacked by an “unknown” male suspect. First responders treated the victim at the scene before he was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. Fortunately the boy’s injuries were not life-threatening, said Sgt. Dan Lancaster. The incident reflects broader issues that Ocean City has faced in recent years with large crowds of teenagers on the boardwalk during the start of Memorial Day Weekend. Mayor Jay A. Gillian emphasized the town’s zero-tolerance policy for such disruptive behavior noting that the city experienced various issues including fights, shoplifting and disorderly conduct.

Following the chaos on Saturday Gillian stated that multiple arrests were made and order was quickly restored once the involved teens were removed from the area. He also issued a stern warning to parents and teenagers: “If you don’t want to behave, don’t come.” Videos of the fight and subsequent panic have circulated online showing groups of young people fleeing the scene and trampling over others. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and frightening. One mother waiting for her daughter and her friend recounted how kids were running through the crowds indiscriminately. Trey Gibson who was nearby when the incident occurred described hearing screams and seeing people run in fear. Despite the disturbing events on Saturday Lancaster confirmed that there were no major incidents on the boardwalk the following night and the city’s 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for unaccompanied minors remains in effect.
