Las Vegas Day Care Teacher Faces Felony Charges for Allegedly Abusing Multiple Children
Las Vegas Teacher Accused of Body-Slamming and Abusing Children at Shenker Academy
In a shocking case of alleged child abuse at Shenker Academy in Las Vegas a 33-year-old day care teacher Eryka Westover, faces serious charges for reportedly “body-slamming” a young child into a cot and abusing other students, according to the published article of TRUE CRIME DAILY. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received a report on April 1 claiming that a student had been mistreated. According to KLAS-TV a concerned mother brought forward video evidence from February 5 showing Westover angrily slamming her daughter into a sleeping cot and telling the child “Yes, I just body-slammed you. You’re fine. Go to bed.” Further investigations revealed multiple allegations against Westover who reportedly used excessive force and harsh punishment on several children. Class assistants noted that she swaddled a toddler to the point of immobilization despite Shenker Academy’s “love and logic” policy that discourages such actions.

Westover allegedly slapped and pinched students, and in one instance used a hose on a child who didn’t want to be sprayed causing the child to fall. Disturbingly, Westover would throw and kick balls at injured children making comments like “That’s what you get” or “He deserved it.” Concerned parents noticed changes in their children’s behavior and physical injuries, such as bruises, welts and cuts prompting them to write to the school about the abuse. One child with a speech delay began repeating alarming phrases like “Don’t touch me” and “Don’t hit me” at home. Westover’s harsh disciplinary methods included making children run laps for normal age-appropriate behavior and screaming at them or pulling them to the ground. Authorities arrested Westover on May 17 booking her into the Clark County Detention Center on felony child abuse or neglect charges as she admitted to some of the allegations but downplayed her actions blaming difficulties with children born during the COVID-19 pandemic.
