Tragic Murder Case: Anya Johnston Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing Susan Trott

The tragic incident unfolded on October 17, 2018 when Johnston returned from running errands, visited Trott’s apartment and viciously attacked her with an M48 Cyclone knife she had concealed in her backpack. After fatally stabbing Trott in her lower back and neck, Johnston fled back to her own home, where she attempted to conceal the murder weapon in a stairwell. Trott’s body was discovered during a welfare check four days later, prompting a thorough investigation that led to Johnston’s arrest. District Attorney Bragg condemned Johnston’s actions as callous and senseless, stating that she had callously taken the life of Susan Trott, a beloved New Yorker known for her kind-hearted and generous spirit. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of untreated mental health issues and the importance of addressing such concerns within communities to prevent further tragedies.
