Prepare for Heat and Humidity This Father’s Day Weekend in Texas

As the city sweltered under the summer sun, temperatures remained high, but a slight drop in dewpoints to the low 60s by the afternoon offered a bit of relief. This adjustment meant that the feel-like temperature barely exceeded the actual temperature, although it remained a hot day.

Heat Wave Continues

This Father’s Day weekend, it’s crucial to protect yourself from the intense afternoon sun. Expect plenty of sunshine with highs soaring back into the mid-90s. Sunday will bring more wind, providing a small respite from the heat. Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures will be slightly cooler, accompanied by a slight chance of rain. The Gulf of Mexico is set to influence the weather significantly. A strong southeast wind will transport humid air into North Texas, raising the moisture levels in the atmosphere.

Potential Storm in the Gulf

Interestingly, this hurricane season has yet to produce a named storm in either the Atlantic or Pacific basins, an unusual occurrence. Only two other years have seen such a late start to the hurricane season without a named storm in either basin. However, that might change soon.

There’s a possibility that the first named storm of the Atlantic season, potentially called Alberto, could form in the southern Gulf and move towards Mexico. Even if it doesn’t develop into a tropical storm, the moisture it pushes high into the atmosphere is likely to impact North Texas, potentially triggering afternoon storms.

Rain and Humidity on the Horizon

The best rain chances appear to be on Wednesday and Thursday. While summer rain is always welcome, the humidity is expected to increase dramatically. This rise in humidity will slightly lower the actual high temperatures, but the feel-like temperature will rise due to the increased moisture in the air.
