Washington DC residents have an opportunity to receive up to $2,000 per month through the new CashRx program, aimed at assisting low-income individuals. Bread for the City, a local non-profit organization, has launched this initiative as part of their mission to empower low-income communities.
Funded by a Health Equity grant of approximately $400,000, CashRx is currently in its first phase, having provided cash to five residents last fall. This summer, an additional five to ten residents are expected to benefit from the program.
Eligibility is determined through questionnaires and regular check-ins, focusing primarily on income levels and residency within Washington DC. It’s important to note that recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are not eligible for CashRx benefits.
Bread for the City aims to support low-income residents in shaping the future of their communities through this guaranteed income program.
