BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A tragic incident unfolded in Birmingham, Alabama, as authorities arrested a 37-year-old man suspected of kidnapping and killing his 40-year-old girlfriend, Nakita Davidson. The mother of four was last seen in the early hours of April 11 before she met a gruesome fate.
Cedric Robertson, a convicted felon with a history of run-ins with the law dating back to 2004, is now in custody facing charges of capital murder during kidnapping, kidnapping, and failure to appear felony.
The events leading to Davidson’s demise began when witnesses reported a violent confrontation between Robertson and Davidson in the vicinity of 6th Avenue Southwest and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Shortly after, a two-vehicle accident involving Robertson’s and Davidson’s vehicles drew the attention of law enforcement. Evidence at the scene pointed to a violent crime, with suspicions that Robertson intentionally collided with his girlfriend’s vehicle.
Eyewitnesses described a chilling scene where Robertson allegedly shot Davidson before placing her lifeless body into the trunk of her car, a 2008 burgundy Saturn Outlook. Robertson then reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind his cellphone, which investigators recovered as crucial evidence.
Following a painstaking search, authorities discovered Davidson’s remains in her own vehicle on April 12, concealed in a wooded area on 18th Place Southwest. Robertson was apprehended later that day in the 2100 block of Northland Avenue Southwest, attempting to evade law enforcement by moving between abandoned houses.
The victim’s brother revealed to reporters that Davidson had been in a relationship with Robertson for less than a year and had expressed intentions to distance herself from him. Tragically, her plans were cut short, leaving behind four children who now face life without their mother.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade of the Birmingham Police Department expressed profound sadness over the loss, emphasizing the impact on Davidson’s children. The arrest of Robertson brings a measure of closure to a community reeling from the senseless violence that claimed Davidson’s life.
As the investigation continues, the residents of Birmingham mourn the loss of Nakita Davidson and grapple with the sobering reality of domestic violence’s devastating consequences.
