A tragic incident unfolded in Las Vegas last year, resulting in the arrest of a 51-year-old man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend’s father during a heated argument over a pet dog. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department recently made the arrest following an investigation into the death of 69-year-old Larry Vargas.
The incident, which occurred on June 11, 2023, saw Vargas losing his life after a physical altercation with Roman Ramirez, the former boyfriend of Vargas’ daughter. Ramirez allegedly visited Vargas’ residence to retrieve a dog they both shared custody of when the situation escalated.
According to reports, Ramirez pushed Vargas multiple times during the confrontation, causing him to fall and sustain injuries. Despite being transported to Sunrise Hospital, Vargas was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Ramirez was arrested on the same day of the incident, initially facing charges of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm on an elderly person. However, the case took a serious turn after the Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled Vargas’ death a homicide on February 8, attributing it to cardiac arrhythmia aggravated by the altercation.
As a result, Ramirez, who had been out on bail, was rebooked into the Clark County Detention Center on a new charge of open murder on February 22. He is currently being held without bail pending further legal proceedings.
The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of escalating disputes to violence and underscores the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
The investigation into the matter continues as authorities seek to bring closure to the family of the victim and ensure justice is served in this case.
