Fireworks bans are about as important to San Antonians as TK.
More evidence needed? This week, a video showing people throwing fireworks mortars from the back of a pickup truck traveling down the South Side’s most popular cruising route is going viral on social media.
Even when Bexar County officials revealed that illegal fireworks displays caused $100,000 in property damage this holiday season, the video, which has been shared on Facebook, Instagram, and X, continues to receive attention.
The 10-second video shows two individuals firing explosive mortar rounds from the bed of a white GMC pickup as it passes the junction of Southwest Military and Logwood Avenue. In the background, reggaeton music is playing loudly.
As of this writing, the video uploaded by the Instagram account @Sanantoniofoos had received over 500 comments and close to 50,000 likes.
The comment from Instagram user @fancy_tako_lady read, “These guys were out in full force.” “No drama, fantastic food, amazing cars, and fireworks.” They were all there to have fun. San Antonio, you have my admiration.
Those who have PTSD, dogs, or dry, combustible backyards, of course, might not be using the term “proud” to describe the fireworks.
However, as is customary, a plethora of other films demonstrating the extraordinary nature of amateur fireworks displays in South Africa have gone viral on social media.
Bexar County said that explosives that started 32 fires between December 28 and January 1 were responsible for the $100,000 in recent property damage in its public accounting of fireworks-related damage, which was made public on Thursday. Three structure fires, two vehicle fires, and at least twelve brush fires were among them.
Fortunately, there were no significant casualties from fireworks during that time.
