GOSHEN: Police searched a 40-year-old man from the Town of Deerpark’s residence in the hamlet of Huguenot on a warrant Thursday and found many weapons, leading to his arrest.
Brian Negrette was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal possession of a weapon following an investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and Port Jervis City Police.
Law officers found illegal items during the search, including a sawed-off pistol grip shotgun, a semi-automatic 9mm handgun without a serial number, a.223 caliber semi-automatic AR-15-style assault rifle with a defaced serial number, and various firearm parts.
According to District Attorney David Hoovler, “illegal gun ownership is the driving force behind drug trafficking and the resulting violence in Orange County.”
William Worden, the police chief of Port Jervis City, and Richard Sztyndor, the police chief of Deerpark, stated that departmental cooperation was essential to Negrette’s arrest and inquiry.
