The boys basketball team at Cambridge-South Dorchester High has the same goal: to win every championship they can.
Among the Vikings’ many accomplishments from the previous season were division, conference, regional, and state titles. After losing to Edmondson-Westside in the final, Cambridge-SD went three for four and narrowly missed out on a Class 1A state championship.
Shawn Tucker, the third-year head coach of the Vikings, stated that since his team’s victory at College Park last season, defeat has been a source of inspiration.
Tucker’s team might have needed a little more motivation after losing to Seaford (Delaware) 71-61 at the Wicomico County Civic Center in Salisbury last week in the annual Governor’s Challenge event.
Tucker, whose team was undefeated until losing to the Lions in Cambridge late in the regular season and then went undefeated until the state championship, said, “I think it was an awesome opportunity for our guys to face a little bit of adversity just like we did last year against Queen Anne’s.
We eat a tiny piece of humble pie, and I believe that kind of pulls us back. And we will now proceed.
After defeating Laurel (Delaware) 72-49 to start the tournament, senior forward Koby Ennals scored 20 points, followed by Semaj Pinder (19) and Sterling Perkins Jr. (13).
Then the Bluejays defeated the Vikings.
Tucker remarked, “It was the tournament’s final game.” We were unable to effectively enforce our will. Bravo to Seaford and coach Vincent (Evans). His children were ready for the challenge because he had them prepped.
Tucker observed Pinder score 19 points, Ennals score 17, and Perkins score 12 as he walked the sideline, learning where his squad needed to improve.
“We need to improve our physical condition before we play on that large court,” Tucker stated. “And since any team can defeat any team on any given night, we simply need to step up to the challenge of competition.”
Additionally, Tucker left with more advantages than disadvantages.
Regarding the Vikings’ attempt to make another deep postseason run, Tucker remarked, “We were able to see the type of guards we’re going to face across the bridge.”
“Seaford’s two guards were simply tenacious and unyielding.” Playing against a few guards and a big man with some length, size, and quickness is a fantastic opportunity that will be evident when we meet paths.

Cambridge, South Dakota (Total: 5-0, 3-0 Holiday games do not affect a team’s total record when it comes to postseason seeding. North Bayside will play again on Monday against Kent Island (4-1, 4-0) in a match for first place in the North Bayside.
Colonel Richardson won both of its games in last week’s Governor’s Challenge, although Easton, Queen Anne’s, and Cambridge-SD all lost 1-1.

Walkersville was defeated 63-53 by Queen Anne’s, and Appoquinimink of Delaware was defeated 55-46.
