The accolades for Britt Prince keep coming in.
On Friday, the Jet Award Foundation presented current Nebraska women’s basketball freshman guard Britt Prince with the 2024 Jordan Larson Girls Athlete of the Year honor. She was chosen from a pool of eighteen applicants and is the inaugural recipient of the award.
Prince attended Elkhorn North High School for four years and was the most sought-after women’s basketball recruit in Nebraska. She led the state in scoring and assists as a senior and won consecutive Gatorade and MaxPreps Nebraska High School Player of the Year awards for her junior and senior seasons.
With 2,491 points at the end of her prep career, the guard broke the previous record-holder, former Husker All-American Jordan Hooper, and set a new mark for Nebraska Class B scoring.
In addition, Prince tied Hooper for second place on the state tournament scoring list with 271 career points. At the completion of her high school career, Prince averaged 24.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.
She also made 92 percent of her free throws and 59 percent of her three-pointers. She was chosen for All-Nebraska and Super State four times.
Prince excelled as a track and field athlete as well, helping Elkhorn North break records in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter relays at the state competition and winning medals in the 400 and 800 meter events.
For the Jordan Larson prize, the current Husker defeated Sonora DeFini and Alexis Jensen, two other candidates. DeFini, a Gretna East student, has committed to Oklahoma State for soccer, while Jensen, a Gretna High School pitcher, has committed to Nebraska softball. A panel of high school contributors and representatives of the media ranked the three.
Prince has been a reliable scoring threat since joining Lincoln under coach Amy Williams. She has started all 13 games this season and averages 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The guard is shooting over 48 percent on all field goals and making 40 percent of her three-point tries.
Prince’s best performance occurred on November 16, when she scored 23 points in 25 minutes during Nebraska’s 113-70 victory over South Dakota. On November 22, she responded with a 20-point performance in a defeat to Creighton.
Coach Williams stated during Big Ten Media Days, “I expect Britt to come in and play hard, be a great teammate, and find a way to impact the game and make everybody around her better, and we’re already seeing that on a daily basis.
” She is making a lot of effort to get better, especially on the defensive end of the ball. She is a superb passer, makes wise choices, and naturally has a terrific handle, but offensively we only see flashes.
In honor of Jordan Larson, a four-time Olympic medalist and member of the Nebraska Hall of Fame, the Larson Award will be given out on April 10 during the 14th annual Jet Award Gala at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.
