Sandy Paws Rescue, a dedicated foster-based dog rescue in Massachusetts, recently introduced Diego, a tiny dog looking for his forever home. This charming seven-year-old pup weighs only 6.5 pounds, but his personality is anything but small.
Despite his age, Diego is a remarkable athlete, frequently entertaining his foster family by jumping onto the doghouse with impressive agility.
Diego was discovered as a stray with dental issues and has since received comprehensive medical care, including a full dental workup, which has restored him to perfect health.
“His little tongue might stick out at you sometimes, but he eats just fine and isn’t shy about showing his lovable side,” Sandy Paws Rescue tells me.
Diego has proven to be extremely social, especially with dogs of a similar size, making him an ideal companion for households with other small canine friends. His cat compatibility has yet to be determined, but his friendly demeanor suggests that successful introductions are possible.
This spirited little dog combines the wisdom of his adult years with the playful nature of a puppy, resulting in an irresistible package of charm and energy.
Diego, a small dog with a big heart, could be the perfect addition to any family. He is on his way to Massachusetts and will be available for adoption beginning Monday, January 6th.
Sandy Paws Rescue is a nonprofit rescue in Massachusetts dedicated to saving dogs like Diego and giving them a second chance by finding them a forever home. Sandy Paws Rescue elaborates on their mission:
“rescue dogs from various shelters, cruelty situations, owner surrenders in Massachusetts, and strays from Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.” They do not have a shelter, so all of their dogs are fostered in private foster homes or kennels until they find their forever homes.
Sandy Paws Rescue is a “100% volunteer-only operation,” with the majority of its volunteers working full-time jobs outside of the rescue.
They state, “our only personal gain, is from seeing our dogs placed in wonderful homes.” Sandy Paws Rescue operates solely on donations to the nonprofit rescue. Running a dog rescue costs money, from transporting them from one state to another to paying all medical bills, food, and other expenses.
“Our adoption fees do not cover the amount that we spend on our puppies/dogs to vet and transport them,” Sandy Paws Rescue explains.
