Two men were killed and eight others injured as 2025 began with several slashings, stabbings, and two shootings across the Big Apple, according to cops.
A 50-year-old man was found slashed in the neck around 4:20 a.m. at the corner of West 137th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem, authorities said.
He was taken to Harlem Hospital and later pronounced dead, according to police.
A 39-year-old man, described as a person of interest, was detained for questioning, according to authorities.
The motive for the attack is being investigated.
The second shooting occurred about an hour later, when Mario Fowler, 46, was killed and a 23-year-old man was injured in front of an apartment building on East 170th Street near Clay Avenue in the Claremont Village section of the Bronx, according to cops.
Fowler, who was shot in both legs, was able to flee into his own building down the street, where someone called 911, according to authorities.
According to authorities, he was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and died from his injuries.
According to police, the younger victim was found around the corner with a graze wound on his chin.
A shooter approached a group standing outside the building and opened fire, striking the two men.
It is unclear if either man was the intended target.
There have been no arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
Three men, ages 26, 27, and 30, were slashed in the head on Grand Street near Roebling Street in Williamsburg around 4:50 a.m., according to cops.
They were taken to Woodhull Medical Center and were listed in stable condition.
The motivation for those slashings is unknown.
An hour after the iconic ball dropped in Times Square, a 51-year-old man was knifed in the stomach during a fight around 1 a.m. at 38th Street and 8th Avenue, police said.
He was taken to Bellevue and listed in stable condition.
Two men were stabbed in the stomach and hand as they squared off around 2 a.m. at West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue, according to police.
The violence continued during the day, with a 40-year-old man being shot in the neck around 1 p.m. just outside St. James Park on Grand Concourse near East 192nd Street, police said.
He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, and police are still looking for a motive.
