Richard Idowu, lost his life in a tragic incident during the 50th coronation anniversary celebration of the town’s traditional ruler. The unfortunate event unfolded on Saturday evening, overshadowing the joyous occasion and leaving the community in mourning.

Celebration Turns Tragic as Local Hunter Accidentally Shoots PDP Chieftain

Hon. Richard Idowu, a prominent figure in the Osun state PDP, had traveled from the United States to attend the special coronation anniversary in his hometown. After the coronation event, Idowu and other notable individuals from the town gathered for a meeting in a part of Ejigbo. As the meeting concluded, local hunters at the venue reportedly began shooting sporadically in celebration. In a tragic turn of events, one of the hunters accidentally discharged his weapon, striking the PDP chieftain. Despite the swift response of a security operative attached to Idowu, who retaliated by shooting the hunter on the spot, the damage had been done.

Afeez Lawal, a Special Assistant to the deceased, revealed that Idowu lost a significant amount of blood, emphasizing that he did not receive adequate attention in time. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., leading to Idowu’s unfortunate demise at the Baptist Hospital in Ejigbo.

Governor Orders Investigation into the Shocking Incident

Expressing grief over the tragic turn of events, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement conveying the governor’s condolences to the families affected. Governor Adeleke promptly ordered an immediate investigation into the killing of Dr. Richard Adeoriokin (Hon. Richard Idowu) and the subsequent actions that led to the death of his accidental shooter.

In the statement, Rasheed stated, “What happened today at Ejigbo is sad. I extend my condolences to the families of the deceased. I have directed an immediate investigation into the killings of Dr. Richard Adeoriokin and the subsequent killing of his killer.”
