 High Wind Warning

  • When: In effect until 2:00 PM Wednesday
  • What’s Happening:
    • Northeast winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are sweeping through the region.
    • The strongest winds are expected along the northern San Diego coast near the Orange/San Diego County line.
  • Impacts:
    • Power outages are likely due to downed power lines.
    • Driving will be hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.
    • Falling debris, including tree branches, poses a danger.

 Red Flag Warning

  • When: In effect until 6:00 PM Thursday
  • What’s Happening:
    • Strong winds and extremely low humidity (as low as 10%) have created dangerous fire conditions.
    • San Diego County mountains and valleys are at the highest risk.
  • Impacts:
    • Any spark could ignite a wildfire capable of rapid spread.
    • Fires would be difficult to control under these conditions.
  • Advice:
    • Avoid outdoor activities that could create sparks, such as grilling or using power tools.
    • Prepare an emergency evacuation plan and pack essentials, including medications and important documents.

Safety Recommendations

  1. Secure Your Surroundings:
    • Bring in outdoor items like patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations to prevent them from becoming projectiles.
  2. Drive with Caution:
    • Be prepared for sudden gusts that can affect your vehicle’s stability. Delay travel in high-profile vehicles if possible.
  3. Stay Informed:
    • Monitor local news, weather apps, and emergency alerts for updates.
  4. Be Fire Ready:
    • Create defensible space around your home by clearing flammable debris.
    • Have an emergency kit ready in case evacuations are necessary.
