North Omaha café opens as a community hub and nonprofit fundraiser.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Cups Café in North Omaha is again open again.

We serve both drip and specialty coffee.

“Coffee is something that brings people together.”

This café in the Florence district was only operational for a few months before closing due to the pandemic and has been closed since.

“I just think that there is a need in our community for more spaces for people to just come and relax and connect with others.”

A few months ago, Nyarok Rayn Tot began brainstorming options for reopening it inside the nonprofit No More Empty Pots Food Hub building.

“Being able to turn this space back into a community hub – we call it a Food Hub for a reason – having it be central to community growth just by having a space where people can gather, and connect and learn together, I think is really important,” says Tot.

“We’ve had people inquire about holding their book club here, as well as business meetings in our conference room,” No More Empty Pots Retail Manager Bret Hesse stated.

What you do not see on the menu is where the revenues go.

The money made within the Cups Café goes directly back into the No More Empty Pots program.

“We want to be able to highlight a different entrepreneur that has been part of the No More Empty Pots program at some point,” Hesse told me.

For example, the food served at the café will be produced by chefs who have taken culinary classes.

The grand opening date is January 7. They will be giving away complimentary mugs with every purchase at the event.
