Lothian, MD-on January 5th, 2024, at about 12:47pm units responded to the Patuxent Mobile Estates for a structure fire. Dunkirk Volunteer Department responded along with Anne Arundel Engines 9 and 411. Initial reports feared the home owner was trapped inside. Anne Arundel’s Fire Department’s Director of Communication, Captain Macallair advised the homeowner was not home, however her pets perished in the fire. It was quickly determained the homeowner was at a local hospial. Macallair further reported the home did not have any smoke detectors. Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire. Per Macallair the determination will take some time due to the excessive storage usage making the home uninhabitable. Captain Macallair would like to remind homeowners to check their smoke alarms and practice home evacuations in the case of an emergency.
