A 13-year-old was fatally shot in the Florida City area, according to authorities.

According to authorities, a 13-year-old child died after being shot in a Florida City area.

At around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, 7News cameras filmed squad cars from the Florida City and Homestead Police Departments near Northwest 13th Street and Sixth Avenue.

According to Florida City Police, officers arrived at the scene to find a 13-year-old victim with gunshot wounds in the backyard of a home.

Before Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics arrived, officers began taking life-saving measures. They evacuated the teenager to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Back at the scene, authorities have cordoned off a full block as they conduct their investigation. They appear to be focusing on a dark-colored car, although it is unclear how it relates to the crime scene.

The ring surveillance video captured audio of firing.

Residents told 7News that they heard approximately a dozen gunshots before 8 p.m. They claimed the shots scared them, and police rushed the area shortly after.

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau has taken over the continuing investigation.
