LA PLATA, Md. — The Port Tobacco Players will present “Chicken & Biscuits,” a heartfelt comedy by Douglas Lyons, from Jan. 17 through Feb. 2 at their main stage in downtown La Plata.
Performances are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors over 60, youth through high school, and military members with ID. Tickets can be purchased online at ptplayers.com.
Produced by Sheila Hyman-Wrabley and directed by Timothy LaBelle, with Shemika Renée serving as assistant director, “Chicken & Biscuits” delves into family dynamics, humor, and unexpected revelations. The story follows rivaling sisters Baneatta and Beverly as they lay their father to rest. Tensions rise when Beverly arrives at the chapel flaunting her “blessings,” Baneatta’s son introduces his neurotic Jewish boyfriend despite her disapproval, and Beverly’s nosy daughter stirs the pot with probing questions no one wants to address. While Baneatta’s pastor husband attempts to mediate the escalating drama, a shocking family secret unveiled at the pulpit forces the sisters to confront a truth that could either mend their relationship or shatter it entirely.
The production includes brief depictions of drug use by a minor and some adult language.
