Bands of Snow Possible Friday

A weak system will quickly pass by our region on Friday. In addition to helping to bring a fresh injection of cold air on the backside, this system will try to bring a burst of snow as well. While we are not talking about a lot of snow, some minor impacts will be possible, especially near the Mason-Dixon Line.

Our Cedar Point Federal Credit Union Futureview model shows this potential threat quite well. As the afternoon hours wear on, there will likely be enough atmospheric forcing to help develop and enhance bands of snowfall. With highs around 40° tomorrow, some of this may fall as a rain-mix. However, as the afternoon wears on, any precip is likely to go over to snow.

As our model shows, the snow is not expected to be widespread. However, it is possible that you get an hour or two of more moderate snowfall if you get under a snow band. This is the most likely to happen in Southern PA and Northern MD where the atmospheric forcing will be the greatest.

Right now, a coating to an inch of snow looks possible for most of the region. Again, the snow will not be widespread. Some spots will not see much depending on where specific bands develop. With that said, the elevated areas near the Mason-Dixon Line could see up to an inch or two.

Any snow is likely to accumulate primarily on grassy areas. Pavement stickage will be hard to do. As a result, I would not expect widespread impacts or travel delays. But of course, stay aware and cautious, especially north of Baltimore.
