Jackson, MS – Severe storms are expected to bring damaging winds and tornado threats to Mississippi late Thursday into Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has warned of potentially hazardous weather, with wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated tornadoes. The western portion of the state, including areas like Greenville, Vicksburg, and Yazoo City, is under a “Slight Risk” category.

According to the NWS, storms could begin in western Mississippi around 5 p.m. Thursday and intensify overnight. The greatest tornado risk and damaging winds are expected from midnight through 7 a.m. Friday. Areas further east, such as Hattiesburg, may experience impacts through Friday morning.

Residents are urged to prepare for possible power outages and secure loose outdoor objects. The NWS advises having multiple ways to receive alerts, including weather radios and mobile apps.

This storm system is part of a pattern bringing severe weather to the region. Officials emphasize the importance of staying informed and acting quickly during warnings.
