Seattle, WA – A severe avalanche warning has been issued for several Washington mountain zones, including West North, West South, Mt. Hood, Snoqualmie Pass, and Stevens Pass. This warning, effective at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, will remain in place until 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Northwest Avalanche Center, avalanche danger is extremely high. Natural avalanches are likely, and human-triggered avalanches are a significant risk. Officials are urging outdoor enthusiasts to avoid steep slopes and all avalanche terrain. Lower-angle or flat areas beneath steep slopes are also hazardous.

Travel in backcountry areas is still possible but should remain limited to mellow terrain well away from avalanche-prone slopes. The forecast warns of conditions capable of initiating avalanches without warning.

Travelers and residents are advised to check the latest conditions before heading out. Updated forecasts and safety tips are available at nwac.us. Avoid unnecessary risks, and prioritize safety during this high-alert period.
