Elon Musk on Monday voiced his support for one of the most polarizing Artificial Intelligence policy propositions in the country, backing a California bill that would require large-scale models to undergo security testing.
Musk’s Advancing Point Of View On AI
Musk, in a post on X, said the choice to support the bill was a “tough call and will likely make a few people upset,” but that he considers it should pass.
“For over 20 years, I have been an advocate for AI regulation, fair as we direct any product/technology that is a potential risk to the public,” he wrote.
As the head of Tesla, X, and SpaceX, Musk has already encouraged driving artificial intelligence labs to halt the training of new super-powerful system frameworks, but lately, has welcomed generative AI. X recently launched a tool called Grok, allowing users to make and post computer-generated pictures based on a text prompt.
That’s as of now raised cautions about misinformation, deception, and deep fakes flooding the social media platform.
Bill Faces Backlash
The proposed bill has confronted solid criticism and feedback from major tech figures and organizations. Marc Andreessen and OpenAI, among others, have contended that the bill’s regulations are unclear and may prevent the improvement of open-sourced AI models.
Critics stress that the bill could smother development and create pointless obstacles for tech companies.
Musk’s Support In The Midst Of Controversy
On Monday, Musk voiced his backing for the bill legislation in a post on X, expressing that supporting the enactment was a “tough call” that might upset few people.
However, he accepts the bill ought to pass. Musk’s support is critical as the bill faces a critical deadline: it must clear the Legislature Assembly by the end of the week to be sent to Governor Gavin Newsom for approval.
