Budget 2024 and Expansion:
Minister Humphreys obtained funding for the Fuel Allowance scheme’s most significant expansion as part of Budget 2023. This included adopting a new means test designed exclusively for people over 70. Typically, the Irish government spends about €240 million per year on the Fuel Allowance, which benefits approximately 365,000 households. Ministers Michael McGrath and Paschal Donohoe submitted a €14 billion plan for the 2024 budget, ensuring the Fuel Allowance program is fully funded. Payment Dates:

The weekly payments will continue through the second week of April 2024. Those who chose lump sum payments received their first payment of €462 at the end of September 2023, which covered 14 weeks.The second payment, €462, will be given in the first week of January 2024 to cover the remaining 14 weeks.
Eligibility criteria:
