Emily Statton Smith posted on Tuesday that she filed to join the election race for the Midland ISD School Board, District 4. Smith is a native of Midland, an attorney with well over ten years of practice, and a dedicated member of the community.
“I want it to be well noted that I am running for the Midland ISD School Board to deepen the connection between Midland ISD and the community”, said Smith. “Over twenty-five thousand students attend our schools, and the future of Midland is connected to MISD’s success and progress. We need to work on communication and cooperation to bring advantages to our students and educators.
New goals of Smith include advocating for the provision of timely mental health services and assessment for students with disabilities, holding those who managed bond funds accountable for their spending, and promoting early childhood literacy.
“Because of the latest bond approval, I would like to ensure that contractors and architects are in the spotlight so that they deliver their projects within the set time and budget while the community is also updated,” she said
Having learned the concept of handling large amounts of money throughout her legal career, where she managed multimillion-dollar budgets, Smith is detail-oriented and conscious of taxpayers’ money.
“Being an attorney for the past years, I have come to realise the need to prepare well as well as manage financial resources carefully especially if the aim is to produce positive results for the society or body,” she said.
