The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is a new federal income support program for working-age persons with disabilities who are disadvantaged.
The CDB is the main commitment made and constitutes the foundation of the strategy to ensure that the Canadian population with disabilities is integrated.
The CDB was created on June 22, 2023, with the approval of the Canada Disability Bill 2024, otherwise known as Bill C-22.
As permitted by the Act, which also establishes the basis for the CDB, the Government in Council may make regulations to prescribe most of the benefits design features.
The CDB would complement federal, provincial, and territorial disability benefits and services, including child disability benefits, registered disability savings plans, and CPP (Canada Pension Plan) disability payments.

Who Is Eligible? All You Should Know.
Following are the details regarding eligibility criteria.
- Age: To use the services you must be of a certain age, you must be 18 years old or above but less than 64 years.
- Disability: You have a mental or physical disability that renders you so incapacitated to the extent that you cannot secure a decent-paying job.
Most probably, this will be done according to the extent of impairment, which will be defined on that basis.
- Residency: You cannot be a temporary resident or visitant in Canada, but you must be a Canadian citizen who resides in the country or is a permanent resident of the country.
- Work history: Some of the authorities argue that the efforts that a person makes to secure employment, irrespective of disability, should be taken into account.
Those individuals who fulfil these criteria are eligible for the scheme.
