New Brockton High School Football Player Died: Know What Reports Said

The New Brockton High School football player who passed on due to receding at practice on Tuesday has been identified, and WTYV told us on Wednesday. The athlete was named 14-year-old Semaj Wilkins, said the station’s source, the Coffee County coroner Arnold Woodham. He was a freshman at New Brockton High School.

Heath Harmon, the executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, had a moment of silence for Wilkins before the AHSAA Media Day in Montgomery. Other coaches, school employees, and public officials have not been left behind in the community’s social media support.

“The family, that community, and that school is in our prayers,” Harmon said.

One of these games was a scrimmage against Barbour County, and New Brockton coach Jason Barnett said on Wednesday that the scrimmage was canceled.

Statement Released By Coffee County Superintendent Kelly Cobb Late Tuesday Night

“Our Coffee County School System family is grieving the loss of a New Brockton High School freshman who passed away after a medical emergency late this afternoon. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s Office are conducting an investigation, and the Coffee County School System will fully cooperate with both agencies.”

“Starting tomorrow, we will have our crisis response team which includes counsellors, pastors, and other support staff available at New Brockton High School to provide support for the family, friends, classmates, teachers, and other school staff. Our hearts are broken for the family’s loss and our prayers are with them as they mourn. We ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

What His Mother Said About The Incident?

Enterprise resident Regina Johnson-Adams said her son Semaj Wilkins was one of the most caring and outgoing people she had come across in her life.

She said her son, too, was quite a sports junkie, and he enjoyed baseball and basketball, but he had a preference for gridiron. ‘He said one time, ‘No, I want to go out for football. Mama, I can hit ‘EM, I can hit ‘EM. ’…He just had a love for sports, period.’

But, it is very important that she never thought that the game of his favorite son would be the main reason for his death.
