It’s been a little over a week since Vice President Kamala Harris became the first Democrat to run for president. She’s made two appearances in Houston since then. Harris was the keynote speaker at Wednesday’s annual meeting of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. It happened at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. Harris told the crowd about her plans to run for president and portrayed herself as a candidate defending fundamental freedoms.
She has made three trips to the Lone Star State this month. The bid was withdrawn after several state leaders, including Gov. Greg Abbott, pointed out that she had not traveled to Texas since taking office.
Despite the criticism from Republicans, experts say it’s a valid strategy.
“I think Texas is an ATM, and that goes for Democrats and Republicans. They should come here as often as possible. “He’s doing what he’s passionate about and he’s working to make money for his profit.” But Yawn has said in the past that such trips to Texas won’t provide him with the votes to flip Texas blue in November. “This can be dangerous because we saw this with Hillary Clinton in 2016,” said. She visited some states that were a little red, hoping to see where things were coming from, and what happened is, that she didn’t go to states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. She lost some of those states because she said she had no business running for office. ”
Attendees shared their joy at Harris’ performance at the event. Not only to hear her speak but to help spread Harris’ message to others.
Marcia Futel said, “We are especially excited about the opportunity to have Vice President Harris join us to share our goals for the country and how we as a community can support her platform.”
Harris’ trip to Houston continues Thursday as she plans to attend the funeral of the late Sheila Jackson Lee. On Monday, President Joe Biden was in Houston to pay tribute to Lee.
