Target Launches “Denim Take Back Event” with Discount Incentive

Target is set to launch its inaugural “Denim Take Back Event” across all its stores in early August, offering customers a chance to recycle their old denim and receive a discount on new purchases. The company announced on Monday that the event will take place from August 4-10, allowing participants to trade in their used denim for a 20% discount on new denim apparel through Target Circle.

Recycling Denim for a Discount

During the event, customers can bring up to five denim items, regardless of brand or condition, to any Target store. These items can be deposited in specially marked in-store boxes. In return, participants will receive a Target Circle promo code, which offers a 20% discount on new denim purchases. This discount applies to Target-owned brands like Universal Thread and Wild Fable, as well as national brands such as Levi’s. The promo code must be redeemed between August 4-10.

Gena Fox, Target’s Senior Vice President of Merchandising for Apparel and Accessories, emphasized the dual benefits of the event: “Our new Denim Take Back Event is an easy way for families to give their used denim a new life,” she said in a news release. “With back-to-school and college shopping top of mind for families, we’re offering this 20% off Target Circle deal to make it even more affordable for our guests to refresh their denim wardrobes, while also doing our part to reduce waste and keep used denim out of landfills.”

Event Details and Participation

To participate in the Denim Take Back Event, customers need to sign up for a free Target Circle account, which can be done online or through the Target app. Once registered, they can take advantage of the recycling program and the associated discount. By offering this incentive, Target aims to make sustainable shopping more accessible and appealing, particularly during the busy back-to-school season.

Target’s initiative is part of a broader effort to respond to the increasing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products and programs. The company has seen success with similar initiatives in the past, such as its Car Seat Trade-in Program. Since its inception in 2016, the program has recycled 2.6 million car seats, diverting nearly 40 million pounds of materials from landfills.

Target’s Commitment to Sustainability

The Denim Take Back Event underscores Target’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and waste reduction. By encouraging customers to recycle their denim, Target is taking active steps to minimize the environmental impact of clothing waste. This initiative not only helps reduce landfill waste but also supports the circular economy by giving used denim a new lease on life.
