Knoxville Police Capture Juan Carlos Diaz Perez in Connection with 18-Year-Old Girlfriend’s Murder
Authorities in Knoxville, Tennessee have arrested 20-year-old Juan Carlos Diaz Perez in connection with the murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend Suceli Perez, according to the published article of People. On Wednesday July 24 the Knoxville Police Department (KPD) announced Diaz Perez’s capture following a manhunt that ended near Oak Ridge Quarry. Diaz Perez who had been wanted for questioning since July 22 faces first-degree murder charges related to Perez’s death. The arrest was made possible with the help of the U.S. Marshals Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force and Diaz Perez is now being transported back to Knoxville. The investigation began after KPD detectives received reports of a severe assault involving a man and his girlfriend at a residence on Mercer Street.

Knoxville Police Charge Juan Carlos Diaz Perez with First-Degree Murder in Suceli Perez Case
When authorities arrived they found evidence of a violent incident but did not locate either the suspect or the victim. On Tuesday July 23 the body of Suceli Perez was discovered in the bed of Diaz Perez’s truck which had been found in Oak Ridge. The KPD has indicated that the victim’s death is believed to be caused by blunt force trauma though an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office is pending. The case has drawn significant attention with the KPD thanking various agencies for their assistance in the investigation. The department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Perez’s death.
