A Mitchell County man has been found guilty of a serious sex crime in Florida, according to the published article of WALB. Dustin M. Hatcher 39 of Sale City was convicted by a federal jury on Tuesday afternoon after a two-day trial. He was charged with attempting to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and interstate travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. According to the Department of Justice, the investigation began when an undercover investigator posted an ad on a website claiming that he and his 14-year-old niece were available for a sexual encounter. Hatcher allegedly agreed to meet at a gas station in Tallahassee, Florida where he was arrested by law enforcement officials from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigation.

Hatcher’s sentencing is scheduled for October 4 in Tallahassee where he faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment followed by a possible term of five years to life of supervised release. The guilty verdict is a significant victory for law enforcement and serves as a reminder that those who engage in such heinous crimes will be held accountable.
