Fort Myers, FL – A tragic incident unfolded late Sunday night when police fatally shot a man holding a bloody knife and a dismembered human torso in Fort Myers. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Willy Lumaine, was allegedly in the act of killing his roommate when confronted by officers.
On June 9, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Fort Myers Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Grand Avenue and Waltman Street. They were responding to a report of a woman and two children hiding in a carport. The woman informed officers that her husband, Lumaine, was “actively killing their roommate.”
Upon arrival at the residence, police noticed an open door and a trail of blood. They quickly established a perimeter and attempted to communicate with Lumaine and any potential victims inside. Lumaine then appeared at a back window, breaking it with a large knife. Despite police commands to drop the weapon, he climbed out holding the knife in one hand and a dismembered torso in the other.
As Lumaine advanced towards the officers, they initially attempted to subdue him with Tasers, which proved ineffective. The officers then resorted to using lethal force. Despite their immediate efforts to provide medical aid, Lumaine was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed a “violent attack” had taken place, leading to the death and dismemberment of Lumaine’s roommate. Witnesses reported hearing the victim’s desperate cries for help, indicating the severity of the assault. Further details revealed that Lumaine had been in an agitated state since June 8 for unknown reasons.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting. The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
