The California Department of Housing and Community Development has allocated $83 million in federal funds to six nonprofit developers to construct over 400 affordable apartments in Los Angeles County. This funding is part of a larger $185 million grant aimed at creating 1,284 affordable housing units across the state for extremely low-income households.
The allocations from the National Trust Fund will support housing projects in Long Beach, Compton, Willowbrook, Boyle Heights, and Santa Monica. The funding spans the 2022-2023 and 2024-2025 rounds.
Key Projects Funded:
- Long Beach: Jamboree Housing received $23.5 million for The 101, a five-story, 52-unit complex at 101 East Pacific Coast Highway.
- Compton: The Coalition for Responsible Community Development was awarded $15.4 million for The Garvey, a 75-unit complex at 1434 West Compton Boulevard.
- Willowbrook: Linc Housing was granted $8 million for Willowbrook 3, a three-story, 51-unit complex at 12611-12625 South Willowbrook Avenue.
- Boyle Heights: A Community of Friends received $17.7 million for Estrella Azul, an 80-unit complex at 2201 East 1st Street, replacing the Las Palomas Hotel.
- Long Beach: Mercy Housing California was awarded $13.6 million for a five-story, 82-unit complex at 300 Alamitos Avenue.
- Santa Monica: Venice Community Housing received $14.7 million for a seven-story, 78-unit complex at 1634 20th Street.
These projects aim to provide much-needed affordable housing and supportive services to extremely low-income households in Los Angeles County.
