A tragic incident occurred over the weekend at Lake Anna in Virginia, resulting in the drowning of a father and his son. According to authorities, the father drowned while attempting to rescue his struggling son. Emergency responders arrived at the Carrs Bridge Road area of Lake Anna around 1:10 p.m. on Saturday following reports of a child drowning, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Desperate Rescue Attempt
Witnesses reported seeing the child struggling in the water, prompting the father to attempt a rescue. Unfortunately, the father also encountered difficulties in the water, and both were soon lost from sight despite efforts by bystanders to locate and save them.
Several individuals entered the water in a bid to rescue the father and son but were unsuccessful. Lake Anna, a large reservoir situated in Northern Virginia, about 60 miles north of Richmond and 55 miles east of Charlottesville, became the scene of this heartbreaking event.
Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities later recovered the bodies of the father and son, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were from out of state, and their identities are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin. The father was 42 years old, and the son was 14.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing but noted that there is no suspicion of foul play in this tragic incident.
