Two parents in Anderson County, South Carolina, have been accused of sex trafficking their 14-year-old daughter to a 67-year-old man for financial gain. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office stated that April Lawrence and James Wilson allegedly treated their children as “currency,” seeking money through exploiting their daughter.
The investigation, led by Detective Will Freestate, uncovered that Lawrence and Wilson would take their daughter to the man in Greenville County on demand. The man would then send the parents $20 via Cash App for each encounter, resulting in the parents making over $1,000 from trafficking their daughter.
Despite the 14-year-old girl’s reluctance to visit the man, her father reportedly compelled her to do so. Additionally, another individual, Willem Barendsen, capitalized on the parents’ actions and was subsequently charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Lawrence and Wilson have been arrested and are being held at the Anderson County Jail on charges of human trafficking. They have been denied bond pending further legal proceedings.
