A San Pablo man has been sentenced to four years in state prison for causing a fatal crash nearly four years ago. Jose Hernandez-Alfaro, 36, pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter and was sentenced on March 21, as part of a plea deal with Alameda County prosecutors.
The crash occurred on September 8, 2021, when Hernandez-Alfaro ran a stop sign in Alameda and struck another vehicle, killing 27-year-old Nick Bianchi. Hernandez-Alfaro admitted to drinking a 24-ounce Corona beer hours before the accident. Following the crash, he posted $240,000 bail and remained out of custody until the plea deal was finalized. As part of the agreement, charges of drunk driving and hit-and-run were dropped.
Hernandez-Alfaro is currently incarcerated at the Sierra Conservation Facility in Jamestown. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 4 to determine the restitution amount he owes to Bianchi’s family.
