Four individuals have been formally indicted in connection with the brutal stabbing and dismemberment of a New York couple, Malcolm “Craig” Brown and Donna Conneely, whose remains were discovered in multiple parks earlier this year.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced on April 29 that Jeffrey Mackey, Alexis Nieves, Steven Brown, and Amanda Wallace are facing charges including hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, and concealment of a human corpse.
Mackey, aged 36, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and robbery, while Nieves faces one count of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Steven Brown, 44, and Wallace, 40, are also facing charges related to conspiracy to commit murder and robbery.
The horrific incident unfolded on February 27 when Conneely and Brown visited a residence on Railroad Avenue in Amityville. According to reports, they were violently attacked, with Brown stabbed once in the neck and torso, and Conneely sustaining multiple stab wounds to the neck and back.
The district attorney’s office alleges that Mackey, Nieves, and Steven Brown had plotted to kill the couple beforehand. After the fatal stabbing, the perpetrators reportedly dismembered the bodies in a bathroom before disposing of the remains at various locations, including two parks and a wooded area.
The discovery of the dismembered remains began on February 29 when a severed arm without fingertips was found near Southards Pond Park in Babylon by a student walking to school. Subsequently, other body parts were found scattered in the vicinity.
Upon investigating the residence where the suspects had been staying, authorities uncovered several cutting instruments, including knives and meat cleavers, along with blood evidence.
All four suspects were initially arrested on March 4 on charges of hindering prosecution, concealment of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. They were later released, but Wallace was re-arrested on March 14 for alleged theft from a local CVS.
The victims, Conneely and Brown, were reported to be acquaintances of the suspects.
The indictment of these four individuals sheds light on the gruesome nature of the crime and underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.
