Authorities in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, have arrested a 29-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting and killing 19-year-old Sheryl Turner, whose dismembered remains were discovered in the Ouachita River.
Turner, who was last seen by family members on December 31, 2023, had reportedly communicated her intentions to relocate to Ouachita after meeting someone online. However, concerns arose when she failed to maintain contact with her loved ones after her arrival in West Monroe, Louisiana.
On January 24, a hunter stumbled upon a dismembered torso in the Ouachita River, prompting a thorough investigation by law enforcement. DNA analysis confirmed the victim’s identity as Sheryl Turner, whose death was determined to be a homicide following an autopsy revealing signs of sexual assault and a broken neck.
Anthony Holland, the man identified as Turner’s romantic interest, became a person of interest in the case. Detectives uncovered evidence suggesting his involvement, including surveillance footage placing his vehicle near the location where Turner’s remains were discovered.
Following the execution of search warrants at Holland’s residence on April 23, authorities took him into custody. During interrogation, Holland confessed to killing Turner during a sexual act inside his home. He admitted to dismembering her body and disposing of her remains, along with the weapons used and her personal belongings, in the Ouachita River.
Currently, Anthony Holland is held without bond at the Ouachita Correctional Center, facing one count of second-degree murder in connection with Sheryl Turner’s tragic death.
Turner’s obituary paints a picture of a vibrant young woman cherished by those who knew her, her kind and loving personality leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case of violence and loss.
