In a spree of brazen thefts, a group of masked thieves has targeted liquor stores across the Northwest Side of Chicago, leaving owners and authorities on high alert.
The latest incident occurred at a liquor store located in the 4800 block of West Fullerton Avenue in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. Surveillance footage captured two individuals, believed to be part of a larger group, hastily clearing shelves of tequila and cigarettes at 10:26 p.m. last Thursday. Despite the presence of an employee, the culprits made off with armloads of stolen goods, leaving the store in disarray.
This is not an isolated event, as similar thefts took place in neighboring areas. Another liquor store, situated in the 4800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Jefferson Park, fell victim to the thieves’ onslaught at 10:40 p.m. the previous Wednesday. Additionally, a third incident occurred at 8:48 p.m. on Saturday in the 4000 block of North Cicero Avenue near Six Corners in Portage Park.
According to police reports, the thieves employed various tactics to carry out their heists, utilizing different types of force to abscond with significant quantities of alcohol and cigarettes in each instance. Although only two individuals were captured on camera during the Belmont Cragin theft, authorities assert that there are three perpetrators involved. Descriptions provided indicate that they are men between the ages of 20 to 25, dressed in gray hooded sweatshirts, blue jeans or light-colored pants, and black ski masks.
As investigations continue, residents and business owners are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly. The string of thefts underscores the importance of bolstering security measures to safeguard businesses and communities against such criminal endeavors.
