Shelter Struggles and Linguistic Barriers

One significant challenge facing African immigrants is the imposition of shelter limits by Mayor Eric Adams, which restrict stays to 30 days for individuals and 60 days for families. Disproportionately impacting migrants from Mauritania and Senegal, these restrictions exacerbate housing insecurity. Moreover, linguistic barriers hinder access to critical services, as translators for languages like Wolof and Fulani are often unavailable. Additionally, those from countries lacking temporary protected status face heightened vulnerability, struggling to secure work permits and legal assistance.
