Rockford, Illinois – A horrific incident unfolded in Rockford, Illinois, as a 22-year-old man allegedly embarked on a stabbing spree, leaving four dead, including a 15-year-old girl, and several others injured. Christian Soto faces multiple charges in connection with the attacks.
The Rockford Police Department responded to distress calls on Holmes Street, Winnetka Drive, and Cleveland Avenue, finding multiple victims with stab wounds and injuries. Among the deceased were 15-year-old Jenna Newcomb, 23-year-old Jacob Schupbach, 49-year-old Jay Larson, and 63-year-old Romona Schupbach, with seven others sustaining injuries.
According to Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley, the ordeal began when Soto, allegedly under the influence of marijuana he believed to be laced, entered Jacob Schupbach’s home and fatally stabbed him and Romona Schupbach. Subsequently, Soto reportedly assaulted mailman Jay Larson, stabbing him and then running him over with his truck, resulting in Larson’s death.
Soto’s rampage continued as he allegedly forced his way into another home, attacking a woman and her children. He then reportedly targeted three female juveniles with a softball bat, fatally injuring Newcomb. Additionally, Soto allegedly broke into another residence, stabbing a female victim before assaulting a male passerby and attempting to steal his vehicle.
The suspect now faces multiple charges, including four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, and two counts of home invasion. He is held without bond in Winnebago County Jail.
The community of Rockford is left reeling from the tragedy as authorities continue their investigation into the motive behind the gruesome attacks.
