Beware of Scam Targeting SNAP Recipients
SNAP Benefits Have No Deadlines
According to OWTAJ, Pennsylvania officials warn people about a scam on social media, especially Facebook. The scam tells SNAP recipients they can get extra benefits by giving personal payment info in a Google form. But the Department of Human Services says SNAP benefits don’t have deadlines and they’d never ask for personal info on Facebook or Google sites, or in emails, texts, or calls.

Report Suspicious Messages to Protect SNAP Recipients
They want people to watch out and report suspicious messages about DHS benefits to a fraud tip line. The State Inspector General says it’s important to keep people’s trust in help programs and report any quick attempts to steal benefits. You can report these to the Office of State Inspector General online or by calling a fraud hotline. DHS also says real messages from them won’t have detailed benefit info, ask for personal info, or send links to unofficial sites. If you need help applying for assistance programs you can do it securely online or in person at County Assistance Offices.
