Nissan has officially confirmed that the 2024 Nissan Leaf will once again be eligible for a federal EV tax credit of $3,750. This credit, which is half of the maximum amount of $7,500, effectively reduces the price of the Leaf to $25,485 for many households. The confirmation comes after Nissan initially announced in October that the 2024 Leaf models would qualify for the tax credit until December 31, 2023, under the “battery component” requirement of the Inflation Reduction Act.
The 2024 Nissan Leaf qualifies for the tax credit because both the car and its battery pack are assembled in Smyrna, Tennessee. However, the remaining $3,750 of the EV tax credit relies on the origin of critical mineral content, which Nissan does not currently qualify for. This has resulted in a shorter list of 2024 EVs that are eligible for the federal tax credit.
Despite minimal changes from the previous year, the 2024 Nissan Leaf maintains its appeal with a 149-mile range and slight efficiency improvements from battery chemistry and aero tweaks introduced in 2023. While a Nissan Leaf replacement is expected, details regarding its release timeline for the American market remain undisclosed.
As Nissan reaffirms the eligibility of the 2024 Leaf for the federal EV tax credit, consumers in Tennessee can benefit from the reduced pricing, making environmentally friendly transportation more accessible.
